ENCONTRO LABAN 2002 (Laban Meeting 2002)

Associated with the LABAN/BARTENIEFF INSTITUTE, DANCE NOTATION BUREAU, LABAN CENTER ÐLONDON (not confirmed) have the pleasure to announce the conference ENCONTRO LABAN 2002 Ð EL2002 (Laban Meeting 2002)

FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS theme:

BODY LANGUAGE AND APPLICATIONS OF THE LABAN/BARTENIEFF MOVEMENT THEORIES

This cross-disciplinary conference will explore the ways in which the Laban/Bartenieff theories can be applied to exploring, observing, creating analyzing and refining movement.

It is intended for anyone with an interest in areas such as performing arts, non-verbal communication, health and wellness, therapies, sports, business and education.

The Laban/Bartenieff Theories are a body of knowledge that studies gestures, postures and the innumerous relationships of the body within itself and with space and how, through these relationships, meaning is created, encoded and understood.

EL 2002 invites the following submissions:

  • Academic papers
  • Artworks
  • Video/films works

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES:

1. Academic Papers Deadline for submission of academic papers: January 30, 2002, Acceptance will be notified on or around April 2nd, 2002, Authors of accepted papers will be required to return the revised copy and complete registration form (one per paper) by May 20, 2002,

2. Artworks (Performance Installations and visual art works drawing from LabanÕs theories that can be presented in the gallery set of the Museum of Modern Art or in the MuseumÕs outdoor spaces) Deadline for submission of artworks: February 10, 2002, Acceptance will be notified on or around April 20, 2002, Authors of accepted artworks will be required to complete registration form by May 30.

  • - The ENCONTRO LABAN will not be responsible for any expenses related to the installation of the performance.
  • - The Museum staff will supervise the setting of the installation.
  • - No work using flammable or watery materials or that in any way could endanger the Museum premises can be accepted.
  • - For MuseumÕs safety, authors are required to send complete information on technical needs and anything related to the work to be analyzed.

3. Video/Film work

  • a) Artistic video/film
  • b) Scientific video/film

Parallel sessions will be held at the Museum Movie Theatre, presenting new art and theoretical developments of Laban/ Bartenieff theories The complete film or video needs to be sent until February 10, 2002.

ACADEMIC PAPERS are invited on any subject that explores areas of application for the LB System. Examples of this include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing Arts
  • Health (Body Therapies included in this category)
  • Education
  • Sports
  • Business
  • Communication
  • Cultural Studies

Papers should demonstrate an understanding Ð and engagement with Ð of the principles of Laban and/or Bartenieff Theories. Interested parties are invited to submit papers of not less than 2000 words and not exceeding 8000 words. All papers must be submitted electronically in the Microsoft Word for Windows format to: claban@brhs.com.br
